After Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster's success, manufacturers are increasingly planning to introduce an offering in the compact-SUV class of cars. While Hyundai is planning the ix25, Maruti Suzuki has been testing the YBA. In more ways than one, the Maruti Suzuki YBA will be quite similar to its competition. For starters it will be based on a modified platform of the company's hatchback, the Swift. It will also be offered with the same engine options as its hatchback siblings. The YBA will be launched in both petrol, as well as diesel variants.

That means, the YBA will be introduced with the 1.4-litre K14B petrol unit that is also seen on the Ertiga, and makes 95PS and 130Nm. The Maruti Suzuki YBA will also come in diesel form with a 1.3-litre DDiS unit that produces 90PS of peak power and 200Nm of torque.

The test mule that was spotted was completely camouflaged but by the looks of it, Maruti Suzuki YBA's design is inspired by the Suzuki iV-4 concept which was first unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The YBA compact SUV will feature projector type horizontal headlights with Daytime Running Lights on either side of a chrome grille. The front bumper will also sport faux skid plates and circular fog lamps. In profile, the YBA will have swept back roofline and 10-spoke star shaped alloy wheels.

Although the Maruti Suzuki YBA Compact SUV has been spotted testing several times already, its launch is not around the corner. The car will first be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and the launch will follow. With the Ford EcoSport already doing fairly well on the sales charts, and now the Hyundai ix25 and the Maruti Suzuki YBA coming in, this segment is going to see a lot of action in the time to come.

I doubt it will be a success as you are getting the same engines in a sedan(ciaz) at the same price. Thanks for sharing.
