Any reason you are not considering Ford Figo ?

Also the new Swift is coming soon. Personally I would wait for that.

Though If you have narrowed down to that list then my choice would be VW Polo :)

Well

Nissan Micra is good I heard about that its selling in australia alot .

Skoda : would be expensive to fix once broken

Why don't you go for Indian cars?

VW polo..good but again maintenance costs expensive

If you are looking for an affordable car i would definitely recommend Maruti Ritz for its combination of features that is if you do not care about looks.

Here are some of the comparisons:

Looks

1. Volkswagen Polo - strong Teutonic designs and solid German engineering.
2. Nissan Micra - Cute looking car if you are into that.
3. Hyundai i20 - echoes the fluidic design concepts of the Korean manufacturers.
4. Skoda Fabia - functional but boxy form.
5. Fiat Punto - looks just like Palio.
6. Maruti Ritz - a crossover hatch and has CR-V like tail lamps with A-star like front end

Interiors

1. The Hyundai I20 - Only car to have steering mounted audio controls with second largest boot space at 290 litres.
2. Maruti Ritz - Highest head room, good quality interior with 236 litre of boot space.
3. Skoda Fabia - Best front seats and best looking dash with the highest boot space at 315 litres.
4. Nissan Micra - Rear seat space is better than what the Polo and Punto have to offer. However, boot space is the smallest with 226 litres.
5. Fiat Punto - Rear seat space is marginally better than the Polo and boot space of 280 liters is marred by suspension intrusions.
6. Volkswagen Polo - very supportive front seats and a better finish than sister concern Skoda. However rear seat spacing is limited and passangers may find themselves cramped. Boot space is a little lower then Skoda at 294 litres.

Handling & Ride Quality in Traffic ( opinions would be divided on this)

1. Maruti Ritz - Best combination of calm and quite ride quality with good comfort. One of the most silent cars in the comparison.
2. Hyundai i20 - best ride comfort. However steering input is almost zero and body roll is more then Punto.
3. Volkswagon Polo - Best car for handling thrills. Steering wheel is a bit imprecise but chasis makes up for it.
4. Fiat Punto - typical Fiat firm ride quality with no or little steering input.
5. Skoda Fabia - Not much of a handler but provides a more silent ride then Polo.
6. Nissan Micra - jittery ride quality but given its small size, the handling is okay but would enthuse the enthusiast.

Engine, Performance & fuel efficiency

1. Maruti Ritz - Fuel efficient engine with above 17 kmpl claimed mileage. 76 Ps of peak power at 4000 rpm whereas the torque figure reads as 190 Nm at 2000 rpm. It is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission which provides the best drivability in the way it handles speed.
2. Hyundai i20 - i20 has a weak bottom end and a peaky power delivery. Like the 1.5 CRDi in the Verna, this engine also doesn’t have a linear power band. It is the only car here to feature a 6 speed manual transmission. This car however doesn’t like to be hurried.
3. Fiat Punto - The Fiat Punto has the same 1.3 liter engine but on papers puts the maximum power output out of all these cars here. It rakes in 93 Ps of power with 210 Nm of torque. It has got driveability akin to the Ritz but its gearshift lags behind that of the Ritz which discourages spirited driving.
4. Nissan Micra - he Micra however from its 1.4 liter engine only has a peak power of 64 Ps and torque of 160 Nm. It gets a 5 speed gearbox which sometimes baulks. However for the majority of times, it is smooth. The engine revs up nicely and this car is also good as far as driveability stakes go.
5. VOlkswagon Polo & Skoda Fabia - The German brothers have a engine which makes do with massive turbo lag and driving them in traffic can be a bit of chore. The saving grace is that both have superb gear boxes which try to eliminate the turbo lag as far as possible. Even then smooth progress isn’t their forte.

Verdict

It really depends on what you want. If you are driving mostly on highways and can do with the massive turbo lag and high maintainer costs then get Volkswagon Polo. The car has the best gearbox and Engine combo. Will provide all the thrills you need. However, if you are looking for safety and a quite ride. Then I20 doesn't compromise with 6 airbags in the highest trim. Also, if you are worried about interiors and space then it has to be Skoda Fabia. If you want a cute looking car then its Nissan Micra. If you want a fun to drive car but with some space then it has to be Punto.

However if you want the best combo of space, quite ride and price. Then it has to be Maruti Ritz which is priced the lowest at 5.35 lakh and has a fuel efficient engine with ample space in the back seats and boot. So my choice is Maruti Ritz.

In comfort and Driveabilty I20 and Polo may be marginally better than Swift. But The difference will not be huge.

When it comes to maintenance costs, service network and resale value no other hatchback can match Maruti Swift in the premium hatchback segment.

Personally If I had to buy a Diesel hatchback I would get Swift.

For Diesel Sedan I would consider VW Vento.

Volkswagen Polo vs Skoda Fabia

just can’t decide which one to buy, their prices are somewhere in the same range and the mileage offered by them is also quite similar, quite confused.

i think u should go for hyundai i2o .Comfortable seats & generous space for all occupants. Engine department has been more refined this time with Variable Valve Timing (VTVT) making its way into the sophisticated hood.

Hyundai i20 fluidic features comprise of Rear Parking Camera, Fully Automatic Temperature Control, Clean Air-Cluster ionizer for fresh air, Supervision Cluster, Smart Key with Push button feature, Steering Mounted Audio and Bluetooth controls, Tilt & telescopic steering, Multi Information Display, 2-DIN CD/MP3 Audio System with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity. Other include 60:40 Split Seats, centre console multipurpose storage box, front door map pockets, passenger side seat back pocket, Tachometer, Dual Trip meter, passenger vanity mirror and many more.

volkswagen polo is a perfect car for those who are keen on the aspects like style, design, comfort & convenience, road presence and quality of interiors of the car. On the other had, if low maintenance and high fuel economy are your preferred criteria than there are better options available that the Polo including Maruti Swift and Ford Figo.

Though GTD - Super Mod has make a fantastic reply
Adding on to one thing - if you have not finalised - polo n I20 are better bets and has got excellent reviews. Have a test drive of both cars and make a gut feel which one is yours..
